They were first cousins themselves, William's father and Dorothy's mother were brother and sister and both parents were grandchildren of Henry and Martha Mead. Strangely, it has never been against the law in the UK for first cousins to marry but perhaps family disapproval encouraged them to move from London to Devon after their marriage in 1930.
